Duplicate accounts after import
Quick answers
- Why do I have duplicate accounts after importing?
- Duplicates usually happen when the same account existed before an import and wasn't recognized as a match. Compare the codes side by side, keep the one that's working, and delete the other.
Duplicates usually happen when the same account existed before an import and wasn't recognized as a match. Compare the codes side by side, keep the one that's working, and delete the other. Deleting an account only removes it from this app, not from the service.
Symptom
"I have the same account showing up twice after importing."
Why this happens
The app matches accounts by issuer and label to avoid creating duplicates during import. But small differences, like a renamed issuer or a slightly different label, can make two entries for the same account look different enough to import separately.
Fix
- Open both entries and compare the codes at the same moment. They'll match if it really is the same account.
- If you're not sure yet, rename one clearly (for example, add "(old)") rather than deleting immediately.
- Once you're sure, delete the duplicate. This only removes it from TOTP Authenticator; the service itself is unaffected.
- Check that the entry you kept still generates a working code before you consider this done.

If that didn't work
Contact support if the codes don't match and you're unsure which entry to keep.
