Lost my phone, no backup

Quick answers

I lost my phone and have no backup. Can you recover my codes?
Without a backup file, Cloud Sync, or your old phone, we cannot recover your codes. Nobody at this company can. Contact each service directly to get back in, starting with email, then banking, then anything else tied to it.

Without a backup file, Cloud Sync, or your old phone, we cannot recover your codes. Nobody at this company can. Codes are generated on your device and never stored on a server. Here's what you can still do, starting with the accounts that hurt most to lose.

Symptom

"I lost all my 2fa keys because they are not backed up."

What you can still do

Work through your accounts in this order. It roughly matches how much a long lockout costs you:

  1. Email. Get this back first. Most other account recoveries run through email, so it unblocks the rest. Use your email provider's own account-recovery flow.
  2. Banking and financial accounts. Call the bank's support line. They have their own way to check who you are and reset 2FA, and it doesn't involve us.
  3. Exchanges (crypto, trading). Contact their support directly. These usually ask for more proof of identity and take longer, so start early.
  4. Work or single sign-on accounts. Contact your IT or security team; most organizations can reset 2FA centrally without your old device.
  5. Everything else. Most services let you back in with an email or SMS reset. Once you're in, turn 2FA back on and make a backup this time. See getting started.

If that didn't work

For help with one specific service, see recovering a specific service. Otherwise, contact support. We can't restore the codes, but we can help with anything else.
